Statement of Purpose and Practice

Art for me is the expression of the human soul, finding a connection between myself and to that which is beyond me. Death is an inevitable part of life, change and loss are continuously in flux, and the healthiest way of dealing with the inevitable, is to build an intimate relationship with the reality of what it means to exist. Death can be just as valued and appreciated as life itself.

I understand the need and necessity of practice as a means to finding our voices as artists, working through difficult experiences and mental states,  and sharing the inner spirit of ourselves through our creative impulses. By confronting mortality and death, witnessing the continuous movement of time, impermanence and loss - through curiosity, exploration and execution- I found a way to study, accept and understand the nature of things, my realities, and the things I cannot change.

It has become a passion of mine, not only to share the gift of art-making with others, but to also use my creative drive to create unique works (using organic, dead matter) that are all personal confrontations, expressed in different forms, using a series of mediums. each method I use is an attempt at memorializing life through the creation of sacred objects- to keep me grounded, to support mourning pet owners, and to connect to other like-minded individuals with an attachment to oddities that are often deemed unconventional and taboo. My works vary and will continue to expand, as I am always experimenting and finding one-of-a-kind treasures and mementos. I want to explore all the ways in which I can turn death into precious art objects, and I want to reach out and provide a service for those interested in my work!

I think it’s important for us to confront the uncomfortable, to see everything in life as connected and sacred, even if it doesn’t appear so at face value or supported by mainstream culture. There is always something beautiful behind the ugliness of loss, death, and decay. I want to help others look at these concepts and realities in a different light, without judgement, to appreciate its many faces (even the ones not so easy to look at). From my personal work, you can see the range of possibilities- with photography, sculptural and assemblage/collage pieces, and keepsakes – and I look forward to sharing my personal journey with all of you as I go along, expanding and refining what I do. :)

Feel free to reach out if you are only curious or if you have any questions/concerns, as I am just beginning my Business art adventure and I appreciate any opportunity to utilize my creativity. I am still currently building the foundation of my work and the services with which I can provide, so please stay tuned for more to come!

Sincerely, TRQ
